Frequently Asked Questions
Scrolling tips:
Woodburn - to reduce woodburn (darkening of the wood)
- rounding the back of the blade with a file helps to
reduce woodburn on the corners when making
sharp turns.
- covering the pattern with clear packaging tape
helps elimenating woodburn on heavier and denser
woods, like Cherry, walnut,
oak and similar hardwoods.
- Masking Tape (not to be confused with paper tape), and
Duct Tape can also be used.
- Duct tape is especially good on plastics, and plexiglass.
Stack Cuts - my favorite is using brads, with an air brad gun.
- use tape to hold boards together.
- use a glue stick.
- put spray adhesive on both sides of paper, and put between boards
being sawn.
Pattern Paper - When using spray adhesive, do not put on wet, allow it to set and
get just alittle tacky before applying pattern to the wood. If it comes
off too soon, use a glue stick to re-apply that area.
Hard to remove - spray was put on too heavy, or put on too wet.
To remove - a hairdryer or heat gun works best.
- for just a few small areas, I like to use a a very dull knife.
- terpentine or other thinners can be used, but then you have to wait
for it to dry before sanding. Be careful of the soaked rags, they
are flammable.
- a blowtorch can also be used if moved fast enough not to scorch
the wood.
